He graduated from Edison High School and served in the United States Army Medical Core where he spent seven years in Italy. He retired 43 years of store management service for Safeway in Fresno, CA. He married Eleanor (Becker) Bopp on January 18, 1947, and shared 58 loving years together. Eugene and Eleanor traveled the world.
In 1972, He was an active member of the Mason in Fresno, Emeritus member of Imperial Shriners Hospital, Scottish Rite in 1974, Commander of Legion Honor in the Shriners, and was Potentate in 1993. He was the Advertisement Management for the Shrine Circus and car shows. Other organizations he was involved with were Fresno Edison Social Club, Madera-Fresno Trade Club, The Q, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He served on both United Local Credit Union and Credit Union Executive Boards for numerous years.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Christine Bopp; and his wife Eleanor Bopp.
He is survived by best friend and companion, Louise Rosenthal, and family; nieces, Terri Becker-Denney and her husband John, and Jerri Becker, all of Madera, CA, La Tricia Payton and her husband Larry of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Debra Irby and her husband Don of Spokane, WA, and Cindy Bland of Madera, CA; great niece, Shelby Payton of Coeur d'Alene, ID; a great nephew, Wesley Denney of Madera, CA; and sister in-law, Gay Becker of Madera, CA.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Cedar Creek Senior Living; Optimal Hospice Care; and Madera Community Hospital for their support during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel on Thursday, May 3, 2018, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Friday, May 4, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. with a Graveside Service immediately following at Belmont Memorial Park.
