Erma was one of ten children. She grew up in the Easton area, attending Washington Union High School. There she excelled at sports, and lettered in tennis. Erma was known as a hard worker, with boundless energy and a positive attitude to match.
Out of high school, she worked as a telephone operator at Pacific Bell. She met Albert Vietty while at the Rainbow Ballroom in downtown Fresno. They fell in love and were married. Together they owned and worked at Vietty’s Market for 37 years, while raising three wonderful children, Larry, Glen and Kim.
Though she is remembered for her amazing cooking and baking recipes, and her world-famous roses, her favorite role was that of grandmother. She treasured her time with her grandkids Stephanie, Courtney, Greg, Amanda, Matt, Kate, and Joe, having all of them over almost daily during the summer swimming, refereeing scooter races or hitting around the tennis ball. Erma was eventually blessed to become a great grandmother, showering Logan and Cora with the same love and energy she had always had. They loved getting pancakes at IHOP together and going around for walks in her beautiful yard. She was also blessed with a third great grandchild, Alessandra, born just this May.
Erma was a shining light in all our lives. Her grace and generous nature always came through. She loved her brothers and sisters and being together with them brought her endless joy and support throughout her life. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother, grandmother, or great-grandmother. We will miss her every day, but we take comfort in knowing her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Erma is survived by her sister Carol Wathen, her son Glen Vietti and wife Stephanie, her daughter Kim and her husband David, her grandchildren Stephanie Tuttle (Jeremy), Courtney Walls (Jon), Greg Vietty (Samantha), Amanda Pratt ( Jaob), Matt Vietti (Reena), Kate Vietti, and Joe Vietti, great-grandchildren Logan and Cora Tuttle and Alessandra Vietti, along with many nieces and nephews.
Erma was preceded in death by her husband Albert and their son Larry Vietty and his wife Trina.
Graveside services will be October 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Fresno Memorial Gardens. There will a get-together to celebrate Erma’s life at the Walls residence: 10294 E. Sample Ave., Clovis CA 93619.
