Elaine Brody Silverman, born in Centralia, Illinois, May 8, 1924, passed away on November 6, 2021 at the age of 97, surrounded by her loving family. Elaine liked to say that she attended 14 different schools before college, as her family moved a great deal for her father's work. She graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa in 1940. Elaine graduated from the University of Iowa in 1944 with Phi Beta Kappa honors. During her time at the university, she was the editor of the yearbook and president of her sorority and the women's honor society.
In 1944, Elaine married the love of her life, David Silverman, DDS. After David's tour of duty, Elaine and David settled in Fresno, California in 1948. Elaine helped promote David's dental practice and was very active in Temple Beth Israel. In the 1980's, Elaine successfully established and ran Wallcoverings by Elaine.
She was an ardent bridge player, playing as many as 5 tournament and regular games weekly. Elaine was a prolific artist, winning prizes at the Fresno County Fair for her paintings. Almost every friend and all the relatives were the recipients of her gorgeous afghans, at least 80 in total. Her greatest joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband David, her son, Scott Silverman (Loretta Siciliano), and her daughter, Jill Silverman Duncan (Brent). She is also survived by her grandchildren Rachel, Jacob and Lindsey, and her great-grandchildren, Lucy, Liev, Mila, Aviva and Hazel. The family would like to thank the staff at The Terraces at San Joaquin Gardens and the wonderful caregivers from Everlight.
Graveside services will be held at Beth Israel Cemetery on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Fresno Art Museum.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.lislefuneralhome.com for the Silverman family.
