Eileen Louise Lung was born on January 14, 1924 in Clovis, California to Joseph and Dosolina (Belluomini) Lucchesi. She was the oldest of four children in her family and she was raised in the Biola area. She attended Biola-Pershing Elementary School and Central High School, graduating with the Class of 1941. After graduation she attended business classes and began her working life at Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Company in Fresno.
In March 1948 she married Albert Lung at the Cross Church in Fresno, thus beginning a marriage that lasted until Al passed in November 2007. Eileen left her work at Pacific Mutual to become a full time homemaker. She and Al welcomed a daughter to their family in November 1954. After many years as a homemaker Eileen returned to work for Fresno Unified School District. She worked at Lincoln Elementary School and Wilson Elementary School. In June 1981 Eileen retired from FUSD to become a full time grandma for Becky and John. Eileen resided in Fresno until August 2013 until health issues required her to move to Porterville, CA to be closer to her daughter’s family.
Eileen passed away on March 2, 2024 at the age of 100 in Porterville, CA.
Eileen and Al enjoyed many years attending Fresno State football and basketball games. They traveled numerous times to watch the Dogs play out of town. Eileen was a long time member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Westminster Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed baking, sewing, needle work, crocheting, gardening, and spending time with her family. She was a devoted grandma and a tireless worker. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents, brothers Joseph Lucchesi and Carlo Nari, and her beloved husband Albert.
Her survivors include her daughter Gayle Hammelmann and her husband David; granddaughter Rebecca Garcia and her husband Jose; and grandson John Hammelmann and his wife Olivia. She is also survived by great-granddaughters Makenna Garcia, Cameryn Garcia, Carlize Garcia, and Kaia Hammelmann; sister Marie Motte, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Audelia, Jackie, and Beatriz for their faithful caregiving during Eileen’s final years.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Stephens & Bean Chapel located at 202 N. Teilman, Fresno, CA. 93706.
