Doug graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School, class of 1969. After attending college, he served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1976.
For 18 years Doug worked as a computer programmer in California for the County of Madera. Starting in 2015, he worked in the IT Department as a computer specialist at Harris Ranch and Feeding Company, Coalinga, California, until his illness in 2021. Doug was an active member of Friant Foothill Bible Church, Friant, California. He served in the outreach ministry of children and food pantry. He could be found every weekend working on the church bulletin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Brother and Sister-in-law Rodney Kennedy (Shelagh) Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; youngest sister, Deanita Young Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Nephews, infant Robert John Kennedy; Rodney Kennedy Jr. Cuyahoga Falls Ohio; former wife, Marcia Kennedy, Akron, Ohio.
Surviving in addition to Diana Taylor, his loving spiritual companion and dearest friend for 17 years; Sister, Karen Herbert (Alan) Green, Ohio; Brother-in-law, Horace Young Solon, Ohio; Nieces, Esther Kennedy and family, Fairlawn, Ohio; Susan Lee (Mike) and family, Tallmadge, Ohio; Nephew, Britton Herbert (Amanda) Lexington, South Carolina; many beloved cousins and friends; and his cat Tiki.
Doug's family has organized a memorial service to honor his life and military service to be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 836 E Nees Avenue, Fresno, CA where family will receive guests at 2:00pm with the service to follow at 3:00pm. Pastor Bruce Morock, officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date.
