Donald "Don" Robert Smith

He joined the Marine Corp in January 1946 at the age of 17 and received an honorable discharge in December 1947. Don re-enlisted from January 1949 – May 1950. Don retired from Pacific Bell and Ponderosa Phone Company as a telephone line serviceman with over 42 years of service. Don met his bride Patricia Van Doorn on her 21st birthday of April 12, 1953 and they began their wedded life together on Thanksgiving Day 1953.

Don is preceded in death by his parents Fred Smith and Jeannette (Thompson) Smith and wife Patricia Smith, oldest son Steven Smith, wife Suzanne of Lebanon OR, grandson Ryan Patrick of Fresno, CA, brothers Clyde Smith of Fresno, CA and Richard Smith of Oakhurst, CA. and survived by his sister Roberta Hicks, husband Mike of Utah, sons David Smith, wife Michele, Larry Smith, Jeffrey Smith, wife Dominque of Fresno, CA, daughters Gayle Smith-Cruse, husband Steven of Mt. Vernon, WA and Janet Morgan, husband Kevin of Fresno, CA. Don and Patricia Smith were blessed with a beautiful family to include 6 children, 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:00 am followed by the Military Honor Guards at Belmont Memorial with a potluck and fellowship at The Veterans of Foreign Wars at 530 N. Parkway Dr. (Belmont/99)
