Dr. Carmen Evangelista Lopez was born on July 16, 1930 in Baliuag-Bulacan Philippines. She passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. She attended the University of the Philippines Liberal Arts and then transferred to the University of Santa Tomas College of Medicine where she received her degree in Medicine in 1956. Carmen came to the United States in 1956 and did her residency in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She went back to the Philippines after her residency and worked at the Sacred Heart Hospital then worked at St. Lukes Hospital in Quezon City, Philippines.
Carmen decided to go back to the United States to pursue her medical career and received her Medical License in 1984. As a Psychiatrist she worked in several medical hospitals in Westville, Indiana, Chicago Illinois to Jamestown, North Dakota.
Her last 19 years was spent working for the State of California Social Security Disability in Fresno, California as a Medical Consultant while also dedicating a couple of days a week at the Visalia Mental Health Clinic.
Dr. Carmen Lopez retired in 2004, but continued to work as a retired state annuitant because she found that helping people was the most rewarding.
She loves music, watching golf and red roses. We celebrate her life and we will greatly miss her.
She is survived by her husband Orlando Tirol Lopez and her 5 children, Michael Nicolo Lopez, Maria Lucia Lopez Harlan, Maria Teresa Lopez-Carale, Carmelo Romano Lopez and Paolo Carlo Lopez, and 14 grandchildren. Her surviving sisters are Arcadia Evangelista, Teresita Evangelista Ricafort and Fortunata Evangelista.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 4:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m.
