Carmelita " Carmen " Greer

Carmelita “Carmen” Greer was born in Fresno on June 24, 1953. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 with her family and friends by her side. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and godmother.

Carmen was loved by many. She always knew how to brighten someone's day and make them feel loved. She treated everyone with kindness and respect. She rarely got mad and when she did, you knew she had a good reason. Her outlook on life was inspiring. If you were lucky to spend more than five minutes in her presence, you were forever changed.

Carmen attended Our Lady Mt Carmel School and Fresno High School. Carmen continued her education at Fresno City College earning a degree in accounting which led to a rewarding career. She worked at Fresno City Water Department for 30 years.

Carmen married her high school sweetheart, Samuel “Sammy” Segura in 1972. The marriage blessed Sammy and Carmen with three children: sons Jeremy Segura, Joshua Segura, and daughter Jennifer Segura. While their marriage wouldn’t last forever as they’d hope, Sammy and Carmen remained close for the remainder of his life.

During her time at Fresno City Water Department, she would meet her second husband, Michael Greer. Carmen and Michael married on October 12, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Carmen loved unconditionally and the things most important to her were her family, Catholic faith, and friends. Carmen was deeply involved in her Catholic faith. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Guadalupana Society. She taught RCIA and Sunday school at Sacred Heart for more than 20 years.

Carmen is survived by her loving husband Michael Greer, children Jeremy Segura and his partner Liz Cruz, Joshua Segura, Jennifer Segura and her partner Angie Alcorta. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Nathaniel Medina, Jeveny Segura, Ruben Paredes, Jaden Segura, Mia Cruz, Jewels Segura, Trystan Alcorta, Jedi Segura, and Kylian Alcorta, and two great-grandchildren: Elijah Medina and Baby Medina.

Carmen was a loving sister to Ricci Torres, Margie Meza, Lupe Meza, Simon A. Torres, Jr., Toni Torres, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Guadalupe Silva Torres, brother Julian Torres, and grandson, Jeweliani Segura.

A visitation for Carmen will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720. A rosary service will occur Wednesday, July 27, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 836 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, CA 93720. A funeral service will occur Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2140 N. Cedar Ave., Fresno, CA 93703.
