Barbara Marie Stein

Barbara attended Fruitland Elementary (K-8th), and Livingston High School in Merced, CA. Barbara then attended CSU Fresno, where she earned her Bachelors of Arts in Education, and was also awarded the presidents medal upon graduation.

Barbara (Aka: Miss Stein) worked at Dailey Elementary of Fresno Unified School District for 35 years, teaching mostly 5th and 6th grade classes, retiring in 1984. Upon retirement, Barbara spent her time volunteering for numerous organizations such as Hypana Nursing Home, Evangel Home, St. Jude Dream Home, Fresno Metro Soccer and Retired Teachers Association. Barbara actively participated in her sorority Alpha Delta Kappa (’57) and was an honorary member of Kappa Delta Pi (’47).

Outside of volunteering Barbara enjoyed spending her time making needlepoint pieces, cross stitch and latch hook. She especially enjoyed her time at Janna’s weekly needlepoint classes with her dear friends Janna and Norla.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Wilamina, brothers Bill and Richard; and twin sisters Lola and Lorraine.

The family would like to especially thank Hinds Hospice for their care, her lifelong friend Bonnie, and her sorority sisters, Molly and Mary Ann, and friend Ted, for being by her side till the end.

Barbara is survived by her sister-in-law Alice Stein, seven nieces and nephews; 12 great nieces and nephews, and 18 great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Whitehurst Funeral Home between 4:00-6:00PM on Friday, January 3, 2020. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:00AM at Whitehurst Funeral Home.

Remembrances may be made to the American Lung Association; and St. Jude Children Research Hospital.
