On the morning of March 1st in Folsom, Ca, San Francisco lost one of its finest restaurateurs and hoteliers, Anthony “Cal” Rossi. Cal, to his friends and family. He was married to Cecilia “Sissy” Cecil in Fresno, Ca on November 30, 1957.
His start in business began with his family developing Westlan Shopping Center in Fresno. He was president of The Rossi Group, which included world-class hotels and resorts throughout the United States. He loved cooking for family and friends, his dinner parties legendary. He enjoyed sailing on the San Francisco Bay with Sissy, their children and many friends. He named their boat “Scugnizzo” the Italian word for street urchin, boys of Naples. Hunting at his duck club in the Delta, dinners for friends, a thousand happy memories. The children remember their father as a generous man, always there to help anyone in whichever way he could. An elegant man of dignity, a great sense of humor. A sensitive man of compassion, one of his great talents was the hospitality business. He enjoyed making people happy, comfortable and deliciously well-fed in sophisticated surroundings. Cal and Sissy were married 62 years.
He carries into the next life the love of his wife Sissy, daughter Ceslie Rossi, son John Rossi, son Patrick Rossi and his wife Jana Rossi, brother Carlo Rossi and his wife Eileen Rossi, sister Anna Streicher, nieces Carmella, Elena, Megan, nephews Chris and Tom, and his four grandchildren Antony Rossi Portugal, Ashley Rossi, Janelle Rossi and Vallentino Rossi. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Tony and Mamie Rossi and brother-in-law Walter Streicher.
