Angelina Louise Sousa

Angelina Louise Sousa, a lifelong resident of Fresno, was born December 21, 1931, and peacefully went home from the comfort of her own bedroom on November 19, 2014. Surrounded by her beautiful family, all of us, until the very end, and it was beautiful, truly.

Her life began on Fresno's West Side, where she enjoyed her childhood years in the Italian/American Community. She graduated from Edison High School, and married Anthony J. Sousa, Sr. on August 7, 1954. Throughout her life, Angie played many roles, but none were more important to her than the roles of wife and mother to her precious family. Some of Angie's fondest times were spent supporting and encouraging her children to pursue their interests. The Wishon Elementary PTA in which she acted as president, and the McLane High School Boosters Club were two of her favorites, with many others too numerous to mention.

Later in life, Angie enjoyed vacation trips to Santa Cruz, where she was pampered by her daughter Michele and son-in-law Michael, as well as numerous friends. She also loved taking part in social events in Fresno. She was a member of The Silver Foxes; The Italian Catholic Federation; The Sons and Daughters of Italy; and The Sacred Heart Altar Society, in addition to numerous luncheon groups.

The family would like to thank the following groups and individuals for their kindness and grace: Dr. Linda Bartell and staff; Dr. Thomas X. Minor and staff; the team from Hinds Hospice; and the countless doctors, nurses and assistants at St. Agnes Medical Center who cared for our mom, "The Cute Little Lady with the Fuzzy Hat." The family would also give special thanks to Meshie and Kadisty, her loving caregivers who never left her side. We will never forget their countless acts of compassion, generosity, kindness, and love, pure, true love. Mom said at their friendly beginnings, that she had two new daughters, and it wasn't long before all of us realized we have two "new" sisters, as well. Amaseganelo, ya nayetts. Angie is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony J. Sousa Sr.; parents, Sarafino and Mary Bueti; beautiful sisters, Katherine "Auntie Kay" Lauria and Mary Blancato; and brother, George Bueti.

She is survived by daughter, Michele M.V. Sousa Pennuto and husband Michael Pennuto Sousa; and Angie's furry, four-legged "grand-pets" Bella and Tony of Santa Cruz; son, Anthony J. Sousa Jr. and wife Amy Sousa of Fresno.

Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fresno, on Tuesday, November 25, 2014, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held following the Mass at St. Peter's Cemetery, Fresno.
