She was born in Burlingame, CA on November 24, 1918, to Merz and Mark Gates. She spent a most happy childhood there. She attended McKinley Grammar School, Burlingame High School, and later Stanford University. She married her beloved, Clark Anderson, in 1940. Clark was the son of prominent early day Fresnans, Mina and Arthur Anderson. It was a particularly joyous union as the parents had been newlywed neighbors in 1908, and remained lifelong friends. With great happiness, Clark and Angie welcomed two wonderful daughters, Joy and Joan, into their family.
Angie was involved in numerous organizations. It was her way of giving back in return for the beautiful life God had given her. She was the Secretary of Monday Study Club, Fresno Garden Club, and the Stanford Club of Fresno. She was active in P.T.A. at all levels at Jackson Grammar School, Longfellow Junior High School, and Roosevelt High School. She was a charter member of Fresno Service League, a forerunner of Fresno Junior League and President of La Feliz Guild of Valley Children's Hospital. She was the President of the Chi Omega Sorority Alumnus and Founder of the Fresno City National Panhellenic Association where she served on the board for 50 years. She was particularly proud that it has continually raised money for Fresno State Scholarships Garden House Tea Room and it's membership was special to her with its hard working, dedicated group.
Angie appreciated all of God's blessing, particularly being a survivor of the United flight 811 tragedy in Hawaii.
Angie was preceded in death by Clark in 1969; and by her second caring husband, Dr. Robert Wooton in 1991. She was also preceded in death by both of her precious daughters, with younger daughter, Joan, passing away in 2003, and older daughter, Joy, passing away in 2012.
Angie's family was the joy of her life! She is survived by her son-in-law, Gayland Smith; and four grandchildren, Geoffrey Clark Smith and wife Jessica of Orinda, CA, James Arthur Smith of San Francisco, CA, Christopher Anderson Billick and wife Marina of Los Angeles, CA, and Erika DeWyllie Billick and husband Matt Norton of New York City, NY. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Clancy, Caden, Siena, Kalista, Connor, Alyssa, and Vivien.
