Andrew was born in Selma, California to Frank Hernandez and Adela Diaz. He graduated from Edison High School in 1962 and began his service with the United States Army after graduation.
After returning home, he met the love of his life Mary Reyes Urista. Andrew and Mary were married on September 1, 1967, and were happily married for 48 years. To complete their family, Andrew and Mary were blessed with their daughter Christina Nicole Hernandez in October 1988.
In 1972, Andrew graduated from Fresno City College and then CSU Fresno in 1974. In 1976, he began his career with the Fresno EOC Head Start Program. Andrew served as a Program Advisor until 1979 before becoming the Education Services Director. He served in that capacity until his retirement in August 2012. During his career he supervised many staff and had such a positive impact in their careers. He was a great asset to the Child Development Community and will be dearly missed by many.
Andrew had a passion for genealogy, photography, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank Hernandez and Adela Gamboa and his brother Frank Hernandez, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Christina; his sister, Yolanda Webb; his brother, Ron Gamboa as well as a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm
A mass will be held at St. John’s Cathedral on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016 at 10:30 am followed immediately by a Graveside Service at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
