She graduated from Central High in 1939. During World War II, she, along with her family, was imprisoned at US concentration camps in Jerome, Arkansas and Tule Lake, California. John and Amy were married on February 24, 1946, at Tule Lake. They had three sons, Alan, Ronald, and Dennis. She was active in the Fresno Buddhist Church, Lone Star Community Club, Nikkei Foundation, and Fujinkai, and in the 1960's, she was the Community Leader for the 4-H Club at Lone Star School. She enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren, relatives, and friends, and she was fond of traveling. She also enjoyed teaching others to cook, knitting, pottery, and going to the casino. Since 2006, she lived at the California Armenian Home.
Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Waichi and Ayano Takeuchi; brothers, Harry, Dan, Victor Takeuchi; and sister Matsuye Nakamoto. Amy will be remembered as a caring, generous, and compassionate person, who always greeted individuals, whether family, friend, or stranger, with a warm smile and greeting.
She is survived by her sons, Alan and his wife, Diane, Ronald and his wife, Donna, and Dennis and his wife, Sharon; and five grandchildren, Aaron, Russell, Cory, Kristy, and Stephanie; and a great-granddaughter, Angelina; brothers, Kenneth, Leo, and Floyd Takeuchi; and sister Erma Aoki, all of Fresno; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Saturday, September 21, 2013, from 10:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m., and the funeral will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2013, at 10:00 a.m.
