Her family moved from the Azores to California in 1929. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and attended Secretarial College. During World War II, she worked for the Army Air Force at Hammer Field, Fresno. She later moved to Oakland, where she was an executive assistant with Sperry Univac for 30 years. She met her husband Arnold Cavanaugh in Oakland. They were married for 53 years. After his death in 2010, she returned to Clovis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary L. George, and brothers Manuel R. Sousa and Anthony J. Sousa, Sr. She is survived by and will be missed by numerous loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.

Visitation will be July 16, 2021 at Whitehurst Funeral Home, 836 E Nees Ave., Fresno from 4:00 to 7:00pm, followed by the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00pm. Memorial Mass will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 929 Harvard Ave., Clovis, July 17, 2021 at 12:00pm. Interment will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery, July 19, 2021 at 11:00am.
