Al was born August 16, 1927, in Los Angeles, CA, to Alfredo and Ascension Gonzalez. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in Japan following World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Army he enrolled and graduated from USC. He and his family moved to Fresno in 1967 where he was the corporate credit manager for Gottschalks until his retirement in 1993.
On April 8, 1951, Al married the love of his life, Esther Sedillo. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Al was an avid tennis player since high school and he regularly played at Roeding Park and Clovis West until his final years. He also played bridge weekly, was a member of SIRS, and has been an avid Fresno State football and basketball supporter since 1967.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Marcelino.
Al is survived by his wife, Esther; daughter, Christine Gillham and her companion, Charlie Janiel; sons, Alfred Marc and his wife, Donna, Ronald, and Paul and his wife Sherrie. Al has four grandchildren, David and his companion, Krista Dossetti, Brian and his wife Tamara, Michelle and her companion Rico Juarez, and Alexander; two great-grandchildren, Lilly and Xavier. Al is also survived by his sister, Rosario Salazar.
Visitation will be held at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns & Blair Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 10:00 am, Interment to be followed at St. Peter's Cemetery.
