Alexandra Marisa Hudson was born December 20, 1995 and passed away March 24, 2018. She was diagnosed with Lyme and Mast Cell in the spring of 2017 and staged a heroic fight to beat it. Her devotion to her Heavenly Father and Blessed Mother gave her strength during her painful struggle and ultimately brought her peace at the end.
Alex was born and raised in Fresno, California. She attended Copper Hills Elementary, Granite Ridge Middle School and graduated in 2014 from Clovis North High School. She attended Fresno City College for two years and then was excited to accept her full ride scholarship to UCLA. Unfortunately, that is when her health started deteriorating. She, instead, took online classes through ASU and was determined to return to UCLA to finish her degree in NonProfit Management.
Alex was an avid lover of sports and could not find a sport that she didn’t excel at. She played for Odyssey Club Soccer and travel softball with the Bullets. As an 8-year-old, Fresno State University was already looking at her as their next pitching star. She was also dubbed “the silver bullet” on the track field because of her speed and endurance. She was awarded Athlete of the Year in 6th grade, along with two other female athletes. Girl power!
When asked what she was going to be when she got older, Alex told everyone that she wanted to be a veterinarian....but only for dogs. She loved her family pets. Buddy and Sadie were the loves of her life.
Alex had a servant’s heart and the homeless became her passion. She showed compassion and love to the strangers in the street. Most Sunday nights she would be found driving the streets of Fresno passing out dinner meals to them. To her neighbors, Alex would leave goodies on doorsteps, pumpkins at Halloween time, and flowers...just because. She took pleasure in giving and not receiving. Alex had many lifelong friends, several of whom will be pallbearers at her service. She touched many lives through school, sports, church and the community. She will be remembered most for her giving spirit, true kindness and willingness to include others.
Alex’s final goal in life was to be an advocate for fellow Lyme Warriors. The strong, healthy, athletic young woman experienced first-hand the lack of competent care and treatment for this disease. She also experienced the misdiagnosis of her disease when she was younger and the complications it caused later in life. She fought in typical Alex fashion - all the way to the end, with no pain medicine. The Alex Hudson Lyme and Mast Cell Foundation has been established in her memory. This foundation will raise money to help individuals receive proper testing who might not otherwise have the resources available to them. Alex’s greatest wish is that her life would inspire life and health for others.
Alex was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Frank and Jean Kuta; and paternal grandparent, Robert Hudson.
She is survived by her mother Jody Hudson; father Rick Hudson and his wife Kim; brothers Garrett Hudson and Clint Hudson; grandmother Irma Hudson; Uncle Mark and Aunt Pam Hudson and Uncle John Kuta and dearly beloved cousins Elise and Trent Hudson; and extended family.
