Lucy Curtin Baxter passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017. She is survived by five children: Anne C. Warner of Fremont, OH; David (Cindy) Krock of Pemberville, OH; Kay (Robert) Simonton of Fremont, OH; Nancy (Casey) Collins of Lake Oswego, OR; Jim (JoLynn) Krock of Fremont, OH, son-in-law Mark Chudzinski of Fremont, OH and her two sisters Nancy (Bud) Spengler of Redmond, WA, and Suzie (Art) Otermat of Houston, TX. Lucy is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and nine-great grandchildren.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents Dr. James and Anna Curtin, her husband Dr. John Baxter, her brother James Curtin, daughter Judy C. Chudzinski and grand-daughter Meghan A. Warner.
Lucy was born August 24, 1931 and raised in Fremont, OH. She was a Fremont Ross High graduate and went on to graduate from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.
She was an elementary teacher for 27 years beginning her career in Lindsey, Ohio but spent the majority of her teaching years at Lutz Elementary in Fremont, OH. She was always known as an exceptional teacher and was honored on a national level by Instructor Magazine with the “Teacher Plus Award” given to those who best exemplify teaching professionalism. Her co-workers loved to work next to her and new teachers constantly looked to her for guidance and leadership. She was always remembered by her students and many continued to visit her even after her retirement.
Lucy enjoyed many years at her cottage on Put-In-Bay Island where she would spend afternoons watching boats while floating in Lake Erie. She loved to drive her beloved 1969 Gold Chevy Impala in all of the island parades or just joy ride the island roads in her sun hat. She enjoyed her garden and pond, her dog Rinny and her two adopted outdoor cats. Lucy loved her time spent with grandchildren and great- grandchildren, browsing estate sales, participating in The Coterie Club, and spent many hours playing Bridge with longtime friends. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8P.M. at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, OH.
Funeral Services will begin at 10:00A.M. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
