John J. Gabel 74, of Eustis, passed away on November 2, 2012. He was born in Fremont, Ohio and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and The Ohio State University in 1961, where he earned a B.S. Degree in Economics. John worked as a consultant for many banks in South Florida, including Sun Bank. He was often interviewed by T.V , radio and print media about economic issues in the Ft. Lauderdale area. His experiences within the industry prompted him to write the book "Banking in Florida". He retired after serving as the Health Care Facilities Coordinator for the Emergency Management Division of Broward County, Florida; he received many awards for his work including the Lifetime Commitment Award and an Exceptional Service Award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. John was a member of St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church of Eustis and St. Vincent DePaul Society of the Church. He was the Past President of the Ft. Lauderdale Bridge Club and a member of the Lake County Duplicate Bridge Club and served as a volunteer for the Lake County Sheriff's Office. John is survived by two brothers; Albert (Lucy) Gabel of Dublin, Ohio and James (Rita) Gabel of Dayton, Ohio, his sister Emma (Don) Genter of Saginaw, Michigan, sister-n-law, Betty Gabel of Fremont, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William Gabel in 2001.
Visitation will take place Friday, November 9, 2012 from 4-8P.M. at Keller-Ochs-Koch- Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, OH, 43420.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:30A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Jacob Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in Ludwig Cemetery, Jackson Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Hoffman Catholic Schools Tuition Fund. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kokm.net
