Carol Jean Simon Briney, 89, of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont, Ohio. She was born the daughter of Todd G Simon and Charity Simon White on April 13, 1928 in Fremont. Carol was a 1946 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. She went on to pursue a career in Air Traffic Control in Omaha, Nebraska, before returning to Fremont, where she met and married her husband of 20 years, Kenneth F. Briney. He preceded her in death in 1992. Carol was a lifelong and active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, Deacon, and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the American Heart Association, and the first female dispatcher for the State Highway Patrol for 25 years until her retirement in 1991. Carol will always be remembered as a woman who was strong in her faith, and cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory is her son; James (Susan) Briney, daughter; Beth (Jay) Provonsha, grandsons; Matt Briney of OR, Nathan (Erin) Briney of Sylvania, OH, granddaughters; Jeannie (Chad) Crispen, of Fremont, Michelle (Kyle) Dukeshire of Fremont, Stephanie Briney of OR, step-granddaughters; Autumn Johnson, Holly Costello, great-grandchildren; Austin, Wyatt, Jaxon, Trae, Ireland, Flinn, Carley, Cayla, Enzleigh, step-great-grandchildren; Emma, Grace, Parker, Blake, Trinity, Lilly, Owen, Logen, sisters; Ruth Johnson of CA, Mary Weil and her friend, Phil of Toledo, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father; Marlin White, brother; Todd Simon, Sister; Joan Mann, step-sisters; Willa White Linder, Martha Belch, step-brother; David, Jack, Mernie, and Tom White, children; Kenneth Briney, Jr., Richard Briney, and infant daughter, Susan Briney.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Keller-Koch-Chudzinski Funeral Home, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, Ohio, 43420. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00am with an hour of visitation beginning at 10:00am. Pastor Julie Kling will be officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Presbyterian Church or to Stein Hospice.
