Russell was born on July 3, 1933 in Kinderhook Township, Michigan, the son of Harold Darwin and Frances (Kyburz) Caswell.
He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1951. Russell served our Country in active duty for the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 until 1955, and served in the reserves until 1959.
Russell married Irene Uvon Bouman on April 12, 1952, in Denver, Colorado, she preceded him in death on October 12, 2016. They formerly lived at East Gilead, Michigan for many years, and also lived in Sturgis, Michigan, before moving to Angola, Indiana.
He retired from the Indiana Farm Bureau in 1991 after 26 years of service. He also farmed, and worked at LA Darling in Bronson, Michigan, and the Coldwater State Home, Coldwater, Michigan.
Russell’s hobbies included bingo, puzzles, and sadoku.
Survivors include, two children, Steven (Deborah) Caswell of Albion, Indiana, and Dorothy (Garry) May of Angola, Indiana, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Joy (Larry) Waddelow of Greentown, Indiana, three sisters-in-law, Cora Vee Caswell of Fremont, Indiana, Carol Holiday of Arizona, and Carolyn Caswell of Florida, and a brother-in-law, George Rathbun of Orland, Indiana.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Caswell on January 9, 2018, a sister, Dorothy Rathbun, and three brothers, Paul, Irving, and Eugene Caswell.
Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 11 am Saturday June 30, 2018 at Knauss Cemetery, Kinderhook, Michigan, with Pastor Tim Grable officiating.
Memorial donations in his memory are requested to the Parkview Hospice or Steuben County Cancer Association.
