Mr. Hine was born December 26, 1926 in Huntington County, Indiana, to Leo P. and Eleanor (Schmitt) Hine. They preceded him in death.
Mr. Hine attended Fort Wayne Central High School and took courses at Defiance College.
He married Clarajane Belot on January 25, 1947 in Fort Wayne.
Mr. Hine was a World War II Navy veteran serving aboard PT boats and the US Ault. Following his discharge from the service he began his career working for Dinner Bell Foods in Defiance, Ohio. He spent 41 years at Dinner Bell retiring in 1989 as superintendent. He moved permanently to Clear Lake in 1991.
He was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Chapel, Clear Lake, a member of Clear Lake Lions Club receiving the highest honor Melvin Jones Award, Fremont Moose Lodge, Orland American Legion, and held several positions on the Clear Lake Town Board.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa and great-grandpa.
He loved his family so much and enjoyed cooking delicious meals for them, and he especially enjoyed baking hams for the church families. He loved people and enjoyed so many relationships.
Survivors include his wife, Janie Hine of Clear Lake; one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Gary Hohenberger; two grandchildren, Justin (Crystal) Hohenberger and Lindsay (Michael) Reinhold; two great-grandchildren, Kiara and Mackenzy; and two sisters, Elizabeth Schlatter and Norma Jean Geels.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo Hine and Herbert Hine, and two sisters, Anna Margaret Gerdom and Rosemary Geary.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Chapel, 8780 E 700 N, Clear Lake, Fremont.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Friday at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the services, from 10 am until 11 am Saturday.
Burial will be at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont. Military committal services will be conducted by members of the Orland American Legion.
Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Catholic Chapel or Cameron Memorial Community Hospital.
