Michael Dean McElroy

He was born on June 3, 1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Donald Dean and Mary Alice (Dunten) McElroy.

He graduated from Prairie Heights High School in 1965. After graduation Mike joined the United States Navy and served for 4 years. Upon returning home from serving in the Navy, he attended Tri-State University in Angola.

Mike married Cheryl Anne Gillen on June 4, 1967 in Orland, Indiana. They lived in Howe, Indiana for 30 years, and later moved to Orland, Indiana.

He worked as a purchasing agent at the Kirsch Company in Sturgis, Michigan for many years. Later he worked as an office manager at Nelson Chevrolet in LaGrange, Indiana, and Angola Ford.

Mike was a member of the Angola American Legion Post 31. He enjoyed playing golf, Tom's Donuts, spending time with his wife, family, and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Cheryl McElroy of Angola, Indiana, daughter, Anne McElroy Smith of Angola, Indiana, a son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Shannon McElroy of Charlotte, North Carolina, grand-daughters, Katie Smith, Lucy Smith, Sara Smith, Blane McElroy, and Devin McElroy, a sister, Kathy Weihmiller of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a brother, Jeff (Micha) McElroy of Tennessee, a brother-in-law, Ron Gillen of Orland, Indiana, a sister-in-law, Charlene Perkins of Hudson, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Mary McElroy, brothers, John McElroy and Bruce McElroy, and mother and father-in-law, Darrell and Virginia Gillen.

Visitation will be held from 11 am until 1 pm Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana.

Memorial Services will follow at 1 pm Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Paul Lauver will officiate the Memorial Service. Military Honors will be provided by the US Navy Honor Team and the Angola American Legion Post # 31 Color Guard.

Burial will be at a later time at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Indiana.
