

Mr. Oberst was born July 1, 1938, in Fremont to Keith and Wava (Huss) Oberst; they preceded him in death.
He was a life time farmer. He also was the longtime caretaker of Teeters Cemetery and Clear Lake Baptist Church Cemetery, and also helped with several other area cemeteries for many years.
He was a 1956 Fremont High School graduate. He was a member of the Alvarado United Methodist Church, Hamilton, and was a former member of the Clear Lake Baptist Church. He was a member of the NRA and the National Thrashers Association. He loved the great outdoors and nature, cutting wood, antique tractors, building split rail fencing, and was a forestry buff, and was an advocate for land and water conservation. John also enjoyed playing and listening to country and gospel music.
Surviving are one brother, Daniel and Wanda Oberst of Rochester Hills, Mich.; one niece, Dealia and Adam Partridge of Vasser, Mich., one nephew, Lawrence Oberst of Rochester Hills, Mich.; three great-nieces, Disraeli, Adalae, and Baeli Partridge; and one great-nephew, Caeleb Partridge.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday Feb., 8, 2012, at the funeral home with Pastor Lucretia Snyder officiating. Burial will be at Teeters Cemetery, Fremont.
