George Raymond Sylvester

He was born on October 29, 1924 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of George McClellan Sylvester and Verna (Hoss) Sylvester.

He graduated from Indianapolis Howe High School. He was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran.

He married Deloris “Dee” (Buck) and she preceded him in death on September 24, 2005, after 58 years of marriage.

He was a member of the Orland American Legion Post 423, and had attended Nevada Mills United Methodist Church. He formerly lived at Snow Lake, Fremont, Indiana, and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and had also lived in Fort Wayne. He enjoyed spending time hunting and fishing, especially fishing at Snow Lake, and ice fishing in Minnesota.

Survivors include, his children, Rhenda Sylvester of Angola, Indiana, and Gary (Yvonne) Sylvester of North Port, Florida, a grand-daughter, Abby Marie (Jason) Smith of Rosedale, Maryland, great-grandchildren, Sloan Harper Smith, and Colby and Makayla, and a sister, Martha Gaither of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris “Dee” Sylvester, his parents, George McClellan Sylvester and Verna Sylvester, and three sisters.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, with Pastor Craig Johnson officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by members of the Orland American Legion Post 423.
