Gary Lee Towers, Sr. 78, passed away shortly after arrival at Cameron Hospital on Sunday, August 28, 2016 in Angola, Indiana, surrounded by his family. He was born May 23, 1938 to Rush and Leda (Jenkins) Towers in Quincy, Michigan. On October 15, 1955 he married Norma Markle in Angola. Although he did other things, most of his life he worked as a carpenter in general construction. Gary enjoyed sports—cheering for the Purdue Boilermakers, the Indianapolis Colts and Jeff Gordon—and watching and taking care of his family, his animals (mostly dogs and horses) and wild birds. He had a sense of adventure and loved the outdoors and traveling. As a younger man, he enjoyed horseback riding and stock car racing.
He is survived by his wife, Norma with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage: four sons Gary (Jamie) Towers, Jr. and Greg Towers of Angola; Rodney (Sharla Anderson) Towers of Coldwater, MI; Scott “Randy” (Ruth) Towers of Auburn: two daughters Kim Towers Tompkins of San Jose, CA and Kris Towers Swager of Angola: grandchildren Jerrie Sommers of Bakersfield, CA, Ben (Erica) Tompkins of Danville, CA, Jill (Robert) Tompkins Garcia of San Jose, CA, Brandy (Blake) Egli of Champaign, IL, Rachel Towers of Angola, Gary (Brandi) Towers III of Angola, Erin (Mike) Kiser of Angola, Andrew Towers of Binghamton, NY, Scott (Amy) Towers of Eden, OH, Nicole (Grant) Goerner of Debary, FL, Pam (Nathan) Chorpenning of Auburn, Todd Towers of Coldwater, MI, Tiffany Towers of Virginia, Kari Jo and Angie Towers of Texas, Cheyenne Swager and Sara Pabriaga of Angola; and 30 great grandchildren!
He is preceded in death by his mother Leda Crouse and father Rush Towers, brothers Gayle Towers and Don Towers, daughter Karen Sommers, granddaughter Cissy Sommers and grandsons Levi Swager and Elija Swager.
Visitation at 1:00 pm and funeral service at 2:00 pm on Saturday September 3rd at Beams Funeral Home (Fremont, IN). Burial immediately following at California Corners, Branch County, MI. Officiating the service is Rev. Jon Bruny. Pallbearers for the service are Gary Towers, Jr., Greg Towers, Rodney Towers, Gary Towers III, Blake Egli, and Todd Towers.
