Ramon Reyes Libunao was born to Jose Bautista Libunao and Josefa Tanchanco Reyes on September 1,1935 in Canalate, Malolos, Bulacan. He was the 5th of 6 children who preceded him in death: Aurora, Ofelia (Tirona), Lina, Edgardo and Jose. Ramon spent his childhood years in Zurbaran, Manila. He attended St. Rita College in Manila from K-4 and transferred to Ateneo De Manila from 5th grade until high school. He spent his college days taking up Banking and Finance at the Far Eastern University and played for the school’s basketball varsity team.
On January 1, 1957, Ramon married the love of his life, Luz Camacho Angeles, who was his 4th grade classmate at St. Rita College. They were married for 66 wonderful years. Ramon and Luz were blessed with four loving daughters, Maria Lourdes (Dilig/Maranan), Maria Paz (Camacho), Maria Regina (Rondez) and Maria Angela (Papa) plus 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Ramon was well loved by his family, relatives and friends. He was fondly called Dico Ramon by his younger cousins and Kuya Ramon to his wife’s younger siblings and cousins. He was the favorite “Tito Mon” of all his nieces and nephews. He was known for his thoughtfulness, patience, kindness, humor, gentle demeanor, humility, willingness to help those in need and would give even the last penny he had in his pocket.
During long family trips, he would sing with his daughters which made those long drives fun! His love for music was evident through the talents displayed by his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favorite songs, to name a few were, She Wears My Ring, The Fallen Leaves, Rose Tattoo, No Other Love (theme song of him and his wife), and his all-time favorite, The Impossible Dream.
Ramon is passionate about his work. He started as a bookkeeper for Security Bank & Trust Company at the age of 17 and in 1969 became a branch manager until 1974 when he left the banking world to pursue a career in the life insurance business. In October of 1989, Ramon migrated to California to join his wife and daughter. He worked as a mechanical assembler until his retirement in December 2008. He continued to keep himself busy being the handyman he was. Whether it was caring for the garden he and Luz built together or his carpentry projects around the house, he always found creative ways to make simple improvements around his and his children’s homes. He spent the rest of his days loving and caring for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
