Peter Angelides, a loving father who enjoyed every day of his active 94 years of life, passed onto his next journey on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 peacefully in his sleep. He was surrounded by his loved ones over his last week of life and was able to acknowledge and interact with his grandchildren in his last moments.
Peter was born in Warren, Ohio on October 15, 1929, to parents George Angelides and Hariklea Sideropolous, who immigrated from Greece in pursuit of the "land of opportunity." He grew up with his two older sisters, Penny and Sadie, in the Warren/Youngstown Ohio area, where they were raised in the Greek Orthodox Church.
Peter had a passion for History, Languages and Engineering. He began his college career at the University of Michigan and later transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated with a Spanish and Metallurgical Engineering degree. Throughout the years, Peter became fluent in seven languages. After college, he enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany, where he formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
Peter met the love of his life, Genevieve Geordan, through his father and his good friend John Geordan, who had emigrated from Greece. Upon marriage in 1960, Peter and Genevieve moved several times due to his Engineering career, but eventually settled in Fremont, California, where he built his own business, Metallographic Industries in Sunnyvale, CA.
Peter and Genevieve stated many times that their greatest gift from God were their two children, Philip Geordan Angelides and Petrina Celeste Lewis. Both are married and have 3 children. Philip is married to Katie (Keim) Angelides and their children are Grace (21), Sophia (18) and Philip Jr. (13). Petrina is married to Mark Thomas Lewis and their children are Zachary (24), Nicholas (22) and Alexa (19). They are dedicated to one another and are amazing and loving families.
Peter had several great passions, but his first was his faith in God and commitment to the Greek Orthodox Church. In 1974, Peter, Genevieve, Philip and Petrina joined the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on Davis Street in San Jose, CA. Participation for their entire family included Church School attendance, teaching Church History by Peter, Altar Boy by Philip, teaching Vacation Bible School, Choir, being on the Church School Board of Directors, visiting the ill and elderly, and all church activities and festivals.
In addition, Peter loved to run and had a strong commitment to exercising the body and the mind. He began running in earnest in the 1970’s and went on to complete more than 10 marathons. Peter ran his last marathon at the age of 80! Finally, he was a voracious reader of history, and was the person to go to during our Jeopardy sessions. Peter’s life was full and he lived every moment of it. He was the life of the party and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. May his memory be eternal.
