On July 26th, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones, Michael Sami Saddik passed away at the age of 49 in Santa Ana, CA.
Born on February 15th, 1974, in Alexandria, Egypt, Michael was the son of Eng. Sami Wadie Saddik and Salma (Nammour) Saddik. In 1978, his family emigrated to California, where Michael took on the role of being a caring 'big brother' to his sister, Sarah (Saddik) Goozeé.
Growing up in California's central valley, Michael developed a diverse range of interests, including soccer, basketball, and karate, and he excelled in numerous competitions, earning several awards. These interests continued throughout his life, though he eventually shifted from practicing karate to being an avid viewer of the Karate Kid.
From a young age, Michael displayed exceptional leadership qualities and effective communication skills. These traits contributed to his early success, starting with his venture, Sys-Con Group, a technology company in Modesto in collaboration with his uncle, friend, and mentor, Eng. Farid Saddik.
Later, Michael played a crucial role in establishing NextWeb, a technology company that became an Inc 500 firm before its acquisition in 2006. Subsequently, he co-founded other companies, namely AnaTango, Myndsi, and Built On Vision alongside his friend, confidant, and cousin, George Goubran. Additionally, Michael served as a mentor, board member, and corporate advisor to various organizations.
His thirst for knowledge was insatiable, leading him to pursue higher education. He earned the President's and Key Executive MBA from Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management in 2008. Recognized as a top alumnus in Pepperdine's "40 over 40" in 2018, he also participated in various business programs at Columbia Business School and obtained an ESG Certificate at the University of California, Berkeley.
Besides his professional accomplishments, Michael was an active member of the Saddleback Laguna Masonic Lodge 672 and served on the board of the Lupus Foundation of Northern California while actively supporting Lupus LA. He dedicated himself to his community and advocated for causes such as Lyme disease prevention, Multiple Sclerosis research, and homelessness.
His acts of generosity, advocacy, and mentorship endeared him to many, and he found immense joy in uplifting those around him.
In recent years, Michael cherished his role as a beloved 'funcle' (fun uncle) and godfather to his nephews, Christopher, and Jonathan Goozeé. They shared a special bond over basketball, French fries, and fast cars. Michael would often babysit his nephews but, it turns out that the nephews were actually babysitting him.
During a poignant interview with Pepperdine University, Michael shared two of his life's mantras: "Whatever it Takes" and "Expect Miracles." He revealed that the three most essential things he couldn't live without were God (purpose), close friends and family (joy), and a great book (knowledge).
The untimely departure of Michael leaves a profound void in the hearts of all those who loved and admired him. His unwavering determination to improve the lives of others, regardless of the brevity of the encounter, leaves behind a legacy of compassion, laughter, and love.
