Caridad S. Alfiler was born on July 3, 1939, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a remarkable individual whose life journey left a lasting impression on those around her. She grew up in a large family of ten siblings, being the second youngest among them. Her siblings included +Justiniana Jacinto, +Federico Sagisi, Herminia Quevedo, +Gregorio Sagisi, Venancia Gaoiran, Vicenta Ganoy, +Anatalia Decanay, +Diego Sagisi, and Eulogia Quaile. Her parents were +Estanislao Sagisi and +Eustacia Gaoiran.
Caridad pursued a career as a beautician in Manila, where she cut and styled hair. In the early 1960s, she married Roque Alfiler and embarked on a new chapter in her life. Together, they made their way to the United States, entering through the port in Hawaii and eventually settling in California. Initially residing in Watsonville, Caridad worked at a local cannery. Later, she heeded her cousin's advice and relocated to Santa Clara, where she joined the workforce at Singer Co., contributing her time to the electronics industry for over forty years. Her professional journey culminated with her retirement from Cepheid in September 2022.
In January 2023, Caridad finally made a significant decision to move to Rancho Cucamonga, California, to live with her children: Richard Alfiler and Laurie Alfiler Bautista, along with her son-in-law Christopher Bautista and grandson Alex Vancura. This move allowed her to be closer to her granddaughter Rachel Monroe, grandson-in-law Mikey Monroe, and great-grandson Lil Mikey Monroe, strengthening the bonds of family and creating cherished moments of togetherness.
Caridad's love for her family was evident in her unwavering care and devotion. She was a pillar of strength, ensuring the well-being and safety of her children and grandchildren. Gathering with family and friends brought her immense joy, as she relished conversations, dancing, and singing. Like a true Filipino mother, she delighted in feeding those around her, using food as an expression of love and nurturing. Light-hearted moments were shared, playfully teasing her to pronounce certain words, creating memories that embodied the warmth and humor of familial connections.
Beyond her immediate family, Caridad was deeply appreciated by her co-workers, who fondly recall shared meals at local restaurants and the sense of camaraderie she fostered. Her genuine care and lack of judgment touched the lives of extended family members, leaving an enduring impact on their hearts.
As we bid farewell to Caridad S. Alfiler, her spirit and legacy live on, testaments to the power of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication. Her profound influence on those fortunate enough to have known her will be cherished for years to come.
