Obituary of Thomas L.M. Wiegand
Thomas Lownesborough Morison Wiegand, 87, of Morrisville, NC, formerly of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, on his 58th wedding anniversary. Tom was born on June 25, 1934 to the late Thomas Lownesborough Morison and Barbara Elise Wiegand. Following his graduation from Lafayette College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS McGoffin based out of San Diego, CA. While attending the graduation of his sister in May of 1963, he met the love of his life, Susan Hill Dunn. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on January 25, 1964. Tom began his post-Navy service at Picatinny Arsenal in NJ, subsequently moving to the Washington, DC area with the Department of the Navy, where he retired many years later after a long and successful career. He spent many years traveling North America with his wife and black labs, making new friends everywhere they went. He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, driving fast cars, cooking, telling a good story and most of all, spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susan Hill (Dunn), his son Thomas (Jennifer) of Cary, NC; his two daughters, Christina Campbell (Robert) of Chesterfield, VA, and Elizabeth Yimin (Jason) of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Barbara Bell and Carol Verducci; eight grandchildren, Will and Nathan Campbell; Thomas Wiegand; Jaedon, Ethan, and McKenna Yimin; Erik and Seth Erdman; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service in Fredericksburg from 6:00-8:00 pm. A church service will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Mullins and Thompson Fredericksburg Chapel at 11:00 am, with interment to follow at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to your local SPCA or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
