Ruth Blair Shelton, 87, of Fredericksburg, Virginia died Saturday Nov. 26, 2011. She was born on August 13, 1924 in Gretna, Virginia. She was the 8th child of the late William Roy and Hannah Cook Blair.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Herbert Gordon Shelton; four brothers, Cook Blair, Addison Blair, Leslie Blair, and Jack Blair; and four sisters, Doris Nalls, Ethel Gay, Hazel Anderson and Helen Rogers.
She is survived by her son, Blair Shelton and fiancé, Dawn Elliott of Odenton, MD; daughter, Elizabeth Gulatsi and husband, John of Fredericksburg; brother, William Blair of Winston Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Jesse Shelton, and wife, Natalie, Mack Shelton, John Michael Gulatsi, Rick Gulatsi, and Robert Gulatsi; two great grandchildren, Austin and Ashton Shelton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruth will be remembered by everyone as a caring and devoted mother, nana, sister, aunt, and friend. There was nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her beloved family. Ruth also cherished time with her many friends and they became her extended family as well. Full of compassion and kindness, she often looked after others during their time of need and committed herself to volunteer work at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, and Mary Washington Hospital.
She was a member of Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church and was once active with the Presbyterian Women.
A funeral service will be held at the Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church, 11121 Leavells Road, Fredericksburg, Va 22407 on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Dr. Alan Hager officiating. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Interment will be at a later date at Liberty Christian Church Cemetery in Sandy Level, VA.
