

He was born on May 28, 1947 in Meyersdale, PA the son of the late Lewis F. Gomer Sr. and Ruby (Fate) Gomer. He retired as a postal clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam War veteran. In his early days, he worked as a conductor for Chessie Railroad. He also served several years in the National Guard and Civil Air Patrol. He was a volunteer firefighter in Fredericksburg and Wellersburg, Pennsylvania.
He will be remembered by family and friends as a charismatic, funny, and kind soul who put others first and was always smiling. He loved his family more than anything and was a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was married to the love of his life, Carla, and they recently celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports team fan and never went anywhere without wearing team memorabilia. He passed on his love for sports to both of his children and spent his spare time during their youth as their baseball and softball coach. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, the Moose Lodge, and Eagles Lodge. One of the highlights of his life was participating in fantasy camps where he got to play baseball with the 1960, 1971, and 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates World Series Championship teams. In recent years, he loved to travel, meet new people, and spend time with his granddog, Winston.
Survivors include his loving wife, Carla Jean Gomer; two children, Stacey Nicole Gomer of Mechanicsville, VA and Matthew Lee Gomer of Fredericksburg, VA; one sister, Janice Diane Getson of Rawlings, MD; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ruby, his brother, Lewis F. Gomer Jr., and his son, Robert Lee Gomer Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30pm Friday, July 22, 2022 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. 1009 Stafford Ave., Fredericksburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg prior to the mass on Friday.
Interment will be at Richland Cemetery, 1257 Scalp Ave., Johnstown, PA.
