Garnett was drafted into the U.S. Army’s 33rd INF REGT at the age 18 during WW II and received the WWII Victory Medal for his service while protecting the Panama Canal. Garnett married Pat Kipps and they have enjoyed 69 years together which included raising a daughter, a son and enjoying time with his 3 grandchildren. Garnett grew up in the Northern Virginia area with his Mother, Father, a brother and 2 sisters. He was the Facilities Director at George Mason University in Fairfax VA and in 1977 Garnett moved to SC and worked as the Director of Facility Operations for the University of South Carolina Coastal Campus until 1993 when he retired to Florence SC.
Garnett was a true artisan craftsman by trade and it was truly his happy place. He graced so many of his family and friends with true works of art that will last a lifetime and be an everlasting testament to his legacy. He could always come up with a creative hack for a problem that arose when a store-bought item was not available. He also had a love for antique cars, especially the Studebaker which he proudly drove with Pat by his side. For many years Garnett enjoyed camping with the family. Garnett was also an avid Braves Baseball fan and would sit for days watching their games and rooting on each player by name. Garnett would want his friends and family to celebrate his life.
