Lucille Eileen Atkins, 94 of Providence Forge VA, beloved mother of ten, passed away in the late evening of September 27, 2023 at Falls Run Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a courageous battle with a series of medical complications. She was born on September 17, 1929, in Port of Spain, Trinidad to Albertina Antoine. Lucille was a loving and caring woman who dedicated her life to her family. Growing up in Trinidad, she cherished the idyllic "island life" with her three brothers and one sister.
As a young woman, Lucille had a passion for travel and was determined to create a better future for her family. She worked tirelessly to bring her children to America, finally achieving her goal in 1969. This remarkable accomplishment as a single mother showcased her incredible resilience and determination.
Lucille attended Little Union Baptist Church in Dumfries, VA on a regular basis. She eagerly anticipated visits from her children and grandchildren, cherishing the moments spent together during holidays and special occasions. The recent celebration of her 94th birthday will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Known for her feistiness and remarkable memory, Lucille was truly blessed in life and will be deeply missed.
Though we bid farewell to Lucille on this earthly plane, we take solace in knowing she has found peace in the embrace of angels. Goodbye to a strong and wonderful woman, a beautiful and amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great- great-grandmother. You will be forever in our hearts.
Lucille was predeceased by her husband, Roderick Atkins, her three beloved eldest sons, Errol, Kelvin, Earl, and granddaughter Arlene. She is survived by her five daughters: Amoy, Germaine, Sherma, Charmaine, and Michelle; and her two sons: Chris and Sherlan. Additionally, she leaves behind 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, one sons-in-law Joseph, and two daughters-in-law Gloria and Tanea.
A service will be held to honor Lucille's memory and allow loved ones to say their final goodbyes on October 6, 2023, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel at 11:00 am, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
