She was born on July 3, 1931 in Lorton, Virginia. She was the daughter of Frank Lee Rose and Anita Denty Rose and had ten brothers and one sister. She grew up on family land near Fort Belvoir adjacent to Davison Army Air Field. As her siblings started their own families, they all built homes on the family property, Rose Hill, creating a close knit family bond.
Kathryn is survived by her brothers William and Lawrence, son Kenneth Kyle Beach (Sandy), daughter Debra Beach Bowman (Michael), son Clement Floyd Munno, Jr. (Nicole), and daughter Elizabeth Michelle Munno (Michael). She is also survived by five grandchildren Kenesa Haffer (Jimmy), Heidi Thompson, Kelly Homan (Rhonda), Megan Munno (Andrew) and Peyton Munno (Helen) and seven great grandchildren, Wyatt and Alli Haffer; Asher and Ava Thompson; Bowyn, Noelle and Evan Homan; and her housemate and close friend Anne Dunham and numerous nieces and nephews. Finally, she leaves behind her beloved dogs, Ginger and Hanky, who she insisted are smarter than any human.
Kathryn had 48-1/2 years of distinguished federal government service, most as a Contracting Officer, and worked 7 years as a Purchasing Agent at the Fort Belvoir Army and Air Force Exchange Service. Her government service involved extensive travel.
The most important thing in Kathryn’s life was her family. They gathered at her beautiful home on holidays and birthdays and celebrated several extended family reunions there. Everyone and their friends were always welcome. Many events included music and dancing, as Kathryn loved to cut the rug. She also loved to decorate her home for the seasons and leaves behind an impressive collection of delicious recipes that have passed down through many generations.
Funeral services and the burial will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church, located at 905 Princess Anne Street in Fredericksburg on Thursday, January 19th at 2 p.m. A reception will follow. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church in memory of Kathryn E. Rose Riso.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mullinsthompsonfredericksburg.com for the Riso family.
