IN THE CARE OF
Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service
James W. Davis, 75, of Fredericksburg died on Wednesday, 11 September 2024, at Mary Washington Hospital after a brief illness.
Jim was born in Queens, New York City on 7 June 1949, the only child of James H. and Ann E. Borman Davis. Jim’s father died when he was 6. He was raised by his mother and other family members. He attended Catholic schools and graduated from Hunter College and New York University with degrees in geography, history and finance. Jim worked in retail and finance. His astute financial acumen allowed him to retire when he was in his early 40s. For the next 15 years he devoted himself to taking care of his mother and aunt, the theater, sports, especially the Mets, and history and preservation. He started several historical organizations and volunteered with numerous others. In 2011 Jim moved to Fredericksburg to be near his cousin. He loved living in an area with so much history. True to form, Jim joined and volunteered at many historical and preservation organizations. He founded the American Revolutionary War Round Table. Being a true New Yorker, Jim never learned to drive; Fredericksburg was perfect, he could walk everywhere. Jim also loved sports, the theater, classic movies, playing trivial pursuit and going to Great Lives lectures. He attended nearly every theatrical and sporting event offered by the University of Mary Washington.
Jim will be missed by his family, many friends and remembered for his kindness and generosity. Jim is survived by his special cousin Bonnie Estep, her children and several cousins.
Visitation will be at Mullins & Thompson, 1621 Emancipation Highway, Fredericksburg on Saturday evening, September 21st from 6:30 to 8:30. Burial will be private at the Historic Falmouth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please honor Jim by making a donation to the Historic Falmouth Cemetery, 2220 Warrenton Road, Fredericksburg, VA 22406-4831.
