Harold Vernon Harris Jr.
23 August 1949 – 26 February 2021
Harold (Billy) Harris Jr. departed this life on 26 February 2021 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. His wife Jessie and daughter Marjorie were at his side. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Harold Sr., and Minnie Harris of San Pedro California, he also leaves a son Devone, grandsons, Devone Jr, and Devonte Harris (Texas), his brothers Lester McCoy (Long Beach) and Dwaine Bell (Carson) California and a host of relatives and friends in South Carolina, California, Texas and Virginia to celebrate his life.
Harold a retired military spouse of a Navy Veteran, he lived abroad in Spain and visit places such as Portugal, Africa, Gibraltar, Morocco and lived in several states within the US, supporting Jessie’s Navy career and raising their daughter Marjorie throughout 24 years of military life and 36 years of marriage.
Harold received his formal education in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
On March 14, 1982 Harold accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he was baptized and united with New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, Wilmington CA. Harold had many life skills, he was a welder (CA), quality assurance for diving equipment (Pelagic), managed a golf shop (Rota Spain), a cabinet maker (Culpeper VA) but he most enjoyed being a Dad to De’Vone and Marjorie. He was a great dad; he was a protector. A big brother to Lester and Dwaine who thought he was invincible. He was a die heart LA Lakers and Oakland Raiders fan. He loved a good party, Coltrane, Sam Cooke and Miles Davis. Bill was an “Old G”. A great dancer, as he taught many of us how to hand dance and the Cha-Cha. He was an avid reader, intelligent, articulate and could talk to any subject. He and Marjorie would engage in deep passionate discussions and debates on politics, religion, and the Civil Rights movement, he wanted to ensure Marjorie understood our history and the present as the struggle was real back then and still today. People loved to have dialogue as he was a worthy conversationalist. RIP Mr. Bill.
A Celebration of Harold’s Life will be held from 2:00-3:00pm Sunday, March 7, 2021 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg
