IN THE CARE OF
Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service
Dayton Lynwood Crews “Butch” went home to be with the Lord on November 29, 2021. He passed away peacefully at his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia surrounded by family.
Butch was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on August 10, 1938 to Clarice Mae Crews and Marvin Woodson Crews and was one of nine children who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia, and a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee. He was a true Vol for life!
He had a long career in sales to include the textile industry where he sold children’s clothes to major department stores, local boutiques, and military bases. His later career involved selling security systems as well as newspaper ads. He had the gift of “selling” due to his genuine ability to win people over.
Butch had a contagious sense of humor, passionate heart, and love of people. To meet him was to love him. He loved the Lord, his family, helping people, finding humor in everything and anything related to the University of Tennessee (mainly UT football!)
He volunteered feverishly for over 40 years at Messiah United Methodist Church in Springfield, Virginia. He served on various committees and anywhere and everywhere else he was needed.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Rosemary Snyder Crews; daughter, Lisa Crews Ross; son in law, Gerald Edward Ross; daughter in law, Robin Hylton Crews; granddaughter, Taylor Ross Testman (husband, Nicholas Andrew Testman); grandson, Carter Dayton Ross and great granddaughter, Avery Margaret Testman. He is preceded in death by his son, Brian Lawrence Crews.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Dayton Crews at Messiah United Methodist Church on December 11, 2021 at 12:00 PM : 6215 Rolling Road, West Springfield Virginia 22152. Due to Covid 19, the church requests that all attendees wear masks inside the church.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to The Lewy Body Dementia Association, lbda.org in hopes of creating awareness and finding a cure for this deadly disease.
