Constance “Connie” Ann Gallahan, 78, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. The oldest daughter of the late William and Dorothy Gallahan, she was born on July 4th, 1945, in Fredericksburg, VA.
Connie had a long successful career as head coach, health and P.E. professor, and graduate advisor at the University of Mary Washington (1977-2016). From 1977 – 2001, she coached the women’s basketball team with 306 career wins. From 1977-1986, she also coached women’s volleyball. Connie spent her retirement relaxing with family and friends at her happy place on the Potomac River at Fairview Beach, in King George, VA. She was highly competitive and loved playing, watching, and coaching all sports. She was known for her passion for life, generosity, and hilarious sense of humor.
Connie is survived by her loving sister, Aleta Gallahan Wilcher of Hanover, Va; niece and nephew, Michelle (Kevin) Halpin and Brian Verburg; great-niece and nephews, Austin Burton, Reagan Halpin, and Samuel Verburg; great-great nephew, Kamdyn Burton.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday December 10 from 2pm-4pm at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service in Fredericksburg, VA. A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Monday December 11 in Oak Hill Cemetery.
