Charles is predeceased by his daughter, Tina Marlene Smith and son, Charles Anthony Smith.
Charles is survived by his sister, Patricia (Darlene) Smith Payne; son, William (Bill) Snow IV and daughters, Mechelle Johnson and Nicole Smith, of Fredericksburg; grandchildren, Caitlyn Guerra, Mark Johnson, Brittany Hostetter, Bridget Hostetter, Blaine Hostetter and Zach Blalock; great-grandchildren, Amari Heard, Lelani Redcross, AJ Redcross, Blaine Hostetter Jr, Brooklyn Hostetter, Bailee Hostetter, Paisley Blalock and Beaux Blalock.
Charles graduated from James Monroe High School in 1962. He served as a Tech Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1962-1966 and was a Deputy Sheriff for Spotsylvania county. Charles was huge part of many people’s lives and active in his community by coaching Little League Football, T-ball, JV and Varsity Softball at Courtland High School, he coached softball at James Monroe High School and coached softball at the then Mary Washington College, he lead pitching clinics and spent many days and nights umpiring baseball, softball and football games.
Charles was well known to those in the community as Chuck, Chuckie, Coach Smith, Smitty and most of all Pops. Commuters will miss seeing his smiling face race down Rt 3 in his patriotic, lighted electric wheelchair. Charles was such a giving man and loved by all. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He has now joined a love of his life, Nancy Browning and daughter Tina Smith within the sons of Heaven, listening to Patsy Cline.
A graveside service for Charles will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1902 William Street, Fredericksburg, VA.
