Born in Smithfield, VA, Mr. Duff was a US Air Force veteran, a graduate of R.P.I (Virginia Commonwealth University), and received his master degree from William and Mary. He was principal of Walker Grant Middle School from 1971 to 1976. He was on the Board of Directors of Randolph Macon College and was a member of the Fredericksburg Kiwanis, Ducks Unlimited, and the Rod & Gun Club.
Mr Duff was an accomplished aviator and built an airplane in his garage which was for a time on display at the Virginia Aviation Museum at the Richmond International Airport. He also enjoyed traveling, sailing, woodworking, and reading.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ethel Duff and a grandson, Taeylor.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth; two sons; Elmon Duff and his girlfriend Teresa Thompson of Fredericksburg and Carlton Duff and his wife Rachel of Fredericksburg; two brothers, Scott Duff and his wife Barbara of Richmond and Karl Duff and his wife Pam of Scottsville; three grandchildren, Jacquelynn, Hannah, and Drew; numerous nieces and nephews, and his caregiver, Valerie Roberts..
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 19, 2010 from 4-6 PM at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel.
