I have looked for Miss Soulsby for years. She taught me 7th grade American history. She actually is the teacher who helped get me straight. She was a wonderful teacher and very sad for us both. Miss Soulsby, guess what ? I still have all 50 WV counties memorized.. Thank you.

I am so sorry that I just learned about Cathy’s passing. What can I say. When I was a new, second career teacher she took me under her wing. She shared all of her lesson plans (a genuine gift!) but most importantly she shared how her teaching was all about her love of her students— she always wanted and wanted expected the best of them.

HOWEVER — the thing I remember most were our lunches. Great  times and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed  so much. We always told stories and Cathy’s invariably ended talking about Stuart and her family.

I taught English at North Stafford High School when Cathy taught social studies.  She was always smiling and seemed so happy to be working with colleagues and students. She touched so many and is gone far too soon.

Stuart, praying for you and your family in this time. Cathy was a special person and always found the good in the people she worked with at BP and her students. It was a pleasure to have known her throughout my years at Brooke Point.

I had the honor of working with Mrs V, as I called her at BPHS. She was a giant and will be a legend. Her kindness and her smile lit up the third floor. She  will be special in my heart. Her generosity with her colleagues and students is what I remember.  Love you Mrs V.

This is so sad to hear and read. Cathy was a excellent teacher and friend. So well respected by so many. I was blessed to have worked with Cathy at Brooke Point. She was an amazing mentor and I learned much from her. She will be missed by many. May Cathy rest in peace and may her family and friends find comfort during this difficult time. 

Cathy was such a ray of sunshine and an absolute gift to those of us who were lucky enough to be in her path. Each morning at Brooke Point she would walk through the Counseling Department- coffee in one hand and school work in the other- greeting everyone in sight with that unmistakable West Virginia accent. Sometimes she would whiz on by and sometimes she would stop and share stories about Stuart, her children or grandchildren….and always, always…that smile! What a tremendous loss to all who knew and loved her here on earth.  The heavens, however, are surely singing…and are getting one heck of an informative, creative, and fascinating history lesson as well.  Rest in eternal peace, Cathy! 

Cathy was a wonderful colleague at Brooke Point.  She was sweet and caring and always willing to step in and help.  She was an excellent teacher ❤️

Cathy was such a special person.  To say that she brightened my days and life as well as that of  others at Brooke Point is an understatement.  I will miss her terribly and I thank her for being my friend.  Soar high sweet Cathy...


Cathy and I were friends our entire life. We attended school together from 1st grade to graduate. 
Cathy loved spending time with friends, playing cards, spoons softball and running around in Beckley, PizzaHut  original location on “Valley Drive “. Love her like a sister.

Pleasure working with Kathy at Brooke point high school for many years. She educated her students extremely well. She was a caring teacher and She created hands-on lessons and looked out for her students. Her smile and laugh brighten the many a day.
She loved her children and her grandchildren, and was a source of joy.   

I was lucky to have a teaching practicum with Cathy- she taught me so much and I try to carry the love and care she showed her students in my own teaching. I’m so sad to hear of her passing. Her kindness will live on in the many students she reached and the many teachers she helped train. It was an honor and a joy  to learn from her. 

Stuart and family,  Sending my condolences and prayers to you all for strength and comfort.  I worked with Cathy at Brooke Point .  She  made me smile every time I saw her.  She was the kind of person that embraced you with her kindness and good humor.  We talked many times about our families .  She loved you all so much.  She loved her students and friends.  Cathy was a natural teacher.   She indeed made a big difference in the world.

Cathy was a dear friend and a generous spirit whom I will miss terribly.  My thoughts are with you at this time.  Love to you all.
