Obituary of Barbara "Bobbi" Jane Lucas
Barbara (Bobbi) J. Lucas – a mentor to many and a friend to all – passed away Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. Bobbi is survived by her children Deborah Fitzpatrick and Harry Davis Beatty; her son-in-law Patrick Kinney; her grandchildren Abigail Beatty and Lilly Beatty; her sister Carole Ann McEnery; her nephews Richard Wear, Donald Wear, Michael McEnery, and her many grand nieces and nephews. She was born November 12, 1946, in Woodbury, New Jersey to Howard and Sarah Lucas. Bobbi was a graduate of the Pitman High School class of 1965. She moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1966 and was a longtime resident before retiring to Lake Anna, Virginia in 2017. Bobbi started her career in consumer and business banking at American Security Bank where she found her passion in Information Technology and was the chief architect of the first consumer ATM banking system in the country. She went on to IT consulting, systems redevelopment methodology, and project management and finally retired as the Chief Information Officer at The Washington Post. Bobbi was an avid reader and gardener, supporter of animal rights, and a lover of nature, music and performing arts. She was a longtime patron to the Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Bobbi wished to spend eternity in the mountains with her love Harry Beatty and her many fur babies and her ashes will be spread in the spring when her flowers are in bloom and the sun is high in the sky. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you celebrate Bobbi’s life by donating to Best Friends Animal Society, Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue, the ASPCA, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Northern Virginia Family Services, or your local no-kill animal shelter.
