Susan Stamper Brashear, 78, of Dayton, passed away peacefully on July 7 in Springboro, Ohio. Susan was born September 6, 1944, in McKee, Kentucky, and grew up in New Lebanon, Ohio. She was a daughter of the late Richard and Leona Stamper.
Susan attended Miami University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree, certified to teach English. She also received a Masters of Education from Wright State University.
A lifelong educator, the majority of Susan’s professional career was spent teaching high school English at Brookville High School in Brookville, Ohio and later at Ottawa Hills High School in Toledo, Ohio. An educator for over 40 years, Susan was actively engaged in extracurricular activities, as well. Susan directed school theater productions and was an assistant track coach for many years. Additionally, Susan and her husband, John, took students on multiple trips to Europe over the years. Susan had a remarkable and lasting impact on her students and the communities where she worked.
Beyond the classroom, Susan enjoyed reading, exercising, working in the yard, and golfing. She walked daily, usually at her favorite spot, Wildwood Metropark in Toledo, Ohio, and most often accompanied by her dog and best buddy, Dingo. Susan loved to travel, exploring Europe, Hilton Head, Hawaii, and all over. But her favorite trips were always the family summer vacations to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Getting her beach chair out before anyone else in the morning, and claiming the best spot for the family ensured the day would be perfect. Most of all, Susan loved time with her family, particularly cooking and entertaining for birthdays and holidays. Her love and support for her family never wavered.
Susan is survived by her husband, John; her three children, Rick Brown (Nicole) of Centerville, Ohio; Katy Barker (Brian) of Centerville, Ohio, Liz Fuller of Cincinnati, Ohio; her siblings, Rose Ann Kvorjak (Mike), David Stamper (Charlene), Bonnie Bertelson (Tom), Philip Stamper (Karen), and Liz Moore (Mike), and her sister-in-law Amy Miranda (Xavier). Also surviving are grandchildren, Grace, Logan, and Jack Brown, Conner Walls, and her nieces and nephews. Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Leona Stamper, and brothers Richard and Paul Stamper.
The family welcomes friends and visitors to join them for an open house celebration of Susan’s life to be held on Wednesday, July 19 from 5:00-8:00PM at Benham’s Grove, 166 N. Main Street, in Centerville, OH.
