Odell Weems Jr., born May 10, 1939 to Odell Weems Sr. and Nancy Weems in Akron, Ohio. He lived most of his childhood in Akron and moved to Pasadena, California when he was a teenager. He attended John Muir High School in Pasadena, then joined the United States Air Force his senior year of high school at the age of 17; both serving his country and finishing high school. He honorably served his country from 1956 through 1958.
Upon discharge from US Air force, he began working as a Machinist, then transitioned to Charter Bus Driver for the airports in California. Having been trained how to paint by his father, he later joined his brother, David, in the family painting business, Weems Painting, where he worked for many years. In 1989 he decided to further his education by obtaining his degree in accounting. He subsequently had a successful career working as an Accountant for various small businesses until retirement. In 2012, he moved back to Ohio to reconnect with family.
Odell was married to Carol Ann Weems until her death in 1969 and from that union had two children, Jan and Odell. In 1977 in Juárez Mexico, he married Lorna Faye Edwards (Weems), and two wonderful step-children: Nathaniel Rhodes and Manuel Vaughs.
He leaves to cherish his memories siblings: Jeanette Weems (preceded in death), James Weems (Marcia), Ida Reece (Sam, preceded in death), Paulette Pratt (Bob), and David Weems (Patricia). Children: Rod Huff, Preston Weems (preceded in death in 1962), Jan Weems, Odell Weems III (Carla), and Ronnell Spears (Cynika). Grandchildren: Di’jon Weems, Ja’lisa Elrod, Jo’von Weems, Rod Huff Jr., Tatjana Jones, Ty’mple Weems, Kyla Spears, RJ Spears, and Aaron Spears. As well as, eleven beautiful great grandchildren.
Odell joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1996. He held the office of High Priest. He served as a Temple Ordinance Worker in the Columbus, Ohio Temple. He also served as a Home Teacher, Usher and Ministering Brother for many years. He was cherished by many from California to Ohio. He leaves a legacy of servitude for others to follow.
