Maxine Fletcher of Monroe, went to be with The Lord on January 20, 2015. She was born July 6, 1943 in Miami, Florida where she graduated from Edison High School in 1961. In 1963 she graduated from Dade County Community College. She then received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the U. of South Florida Tampa. She went on to earn a Master's Degree from Wright State Univ. in 1983. Maxine was married to her husband Ben on April 16, 1966. They lived in Tampa until 1973 when they moved to this area. She was preceded in death by her father Ernest Mockabee. She is survived by her mother, Faith Bryan; sister, Victoria Wills, husband Ben; sons, Derek and Brad Sheila; and six beloved grandchildren, Brady, Dylan, Emily, Jonah, Kate and Luke. Maxine took great pride in being a professional award winning educator. She taught a total of 32 ½ years, most of it in the Franklin School System. She finished her career teaching science at Franklin Junior High retiring in 1999. Among her greatest joys was talking to former students and hearing how much they appreciated her guidance and inspiration. Maxine had a great love of music and was a very talented singer. She had a beautiful soprano voice and gave numerous solo performances in college and in church. She was a choir member at Christ United Methodist Church and Monroe United Methodist Church. She also played French horn and guitar. In addition she became an accomplished painter and for many years was involved in various crafts including basket weaving among others. These crafts were used for church bazaars or as gifts. Maxine was well known for her clothes pin Santa ornaments. She created a new design each year for 12 consecutive years. These were presented each year as gifts to family and many friends. She was always heavily involved in church projects and activities. She will be remembered for her glowing smile, joyful nature and genuine love and concern for others. Per her directive cremation will be performed. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Hospice of Butler and Warren County, West Chester Hospital, Monroe United Methodist Church and the many friends who have extended support in this trying time. In lieu of flowers, please make memoriums to Monroe United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be at Monroe United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 31, at 11:00 AM with Reverend Joel Harbarger and Reverend Ann Copeland presiding.
