He was born on August 4, 1960 in Greenville, Ohio. Gary was a 1978 graduate of Franklin High School. He worked as a volunteer firefighter for the City of Franklin for 13 years and retired as a fire lieutenant for the City of Middletown after 28 years of service. Gary was a past IAFF local 336 secretary/treasurer, was on the City of Franklin Civil Service Commission and served on the American Red Cross Board Middletown Chapter. He was a member of the Friends of Gettysburg Foundation, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Gary was involved with Franklin Athletics for over 30 years, including Pee Wee Football coach, wrestling coach for Pee Wee, Jr. High, and Varsity, JV golf coach, the football chain gang, and statistics for the varsity football program. He was a huge fan of Ohio State Athletics, an avid amateur Civil War historian and preservationist, as well as a passionate motor sports fan. Gary was an active member of Berachah Church and was the owner/operator of J&H Lawn Care for 27 years. He was happily married for 40 years and his true passion in life was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sherrie Myers; children, Joshua Scott (Amanda) Myers and Heather Marie (Ryker) Miller; grandchildren, Madison Grace Myers, Nate Bollhiemer, Bekah Arnwine, and Henlee Marie Miller; sister, Pam (Daran) Bishop and their children, Tyler Allen Bishop and Kaylee Jane Bishop; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; as well as his golden retriever, Brutus.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Lee and Sarah (Marshall) Myers; grandparents, Minor & Hazel Myers and Walter & Lillian Marshall; and his aunt, June Overley.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Berachah Church, 1900 Johns Rd, Middletown, Ohio 45044. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at the church with Pastor Lamar Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow at Woodhill Cemetery, Franklin. Services are entrusted to ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME, Franklin.
