Floyd Culley “FC” Sandlin, age 78, of McCormick, South Carolina and formerly of Carlisle, OH passed away on August 30, 2023. He was born May 14, 1945 in Hazard, Kentucky the son of the late Culley and Florence (McIntosh) Sandlin.
F.C. graduated in 1963 from Buckhorn High School and was a 1967 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. He later received his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Dayton. He was a teacher and basketball coach for 30 years at Carlisle High School, Archbishop Alter High School and Ohio Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for 4 years at Greenwood Christian High School. He was also a teacher and basketball coach in South Carolina at Abbeville High School and Wardlaw Academy.
F.C. was very proud of coaching basketball and his championship teams, including District Championships at Carlisle, 1980-1981 and South Carolina Independent Schools Association State Boys Basketball Championship in 2005 at Wardlaw Academy. He also was the former District 15 Boys Basketball Director of the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
F.C. adored his five grandchildren and loved attending their activities and athletic events. He enjoyed listening to country music and watching the UK Basketball games. He was also active in gardening, golfing, fishing, boating, and hunting.
F.C. is survived by his wife of 57 years, Adele Sandlin; son, Steve Sandlin and daughter-in-law, Michelle Sandlin; daughter, Robin Sandlin Holweger and son-in-law, Mike Holweger; grandchildren, Sarah Sandlin, Michael Sandlin, Drew Holweger, Ashleigh Holweger and Luke Holweger. He is also survived by a host of numerous cousins and extended family.
Family and friends are invited to a “Gathering to Honor” his Life which will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023, 10 am-12 pm, at the Anderson Life Celebration Center, 360 Commerce Center Drive, Franklin, Ohio, 45005. Interment of his cremains will take place at a later date at the Bowlin-Sandlin Family Cemetery in Buckhorn, Kentucky.
