Ethel M. Sheets, 102.5 years, of Carlisle passed from this life to her eternal home in heaven on June 3, 2022 with her daughter by her side. She was born on January 3, 1920 to the late James T. Manning and Lillie (Rowe) Manning of Caney Valley, Tennessee. Her strength and spirit helped her push through difficult days as her age progressed and she battled difficulties related to an infection. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is preceded in death by her first husband of 15 years, Haze Dalton; her second husband of 33 years, William I. Sheets; eight sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Bengtson (Keith); grandson, Anders Bengtson (Katie); granddaughter, Kelsey Bengtson; one sister, Bobbie Young; and a host of nieces and nephews. At the age of eight, Ethel began her journey as a Christian when she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior during a revival at Johnson Methodist Church in Grissom Island, TN and presently was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Carlisle, OH.
At the age of 21 in 1941, Ethel left the family farm to pursue her dreams. Ethel worked hard during her lifetime and always stayed busy. Starting in 1942, Ethel was a landlord in the Carlisle/Franklin area for 70 years, helping young families. She loved to cook and provided wonderful meals for family and parties. She was always ready to chat and share a strong cup of coffee or a Coca Cola. During her younger days, she was able to look at any outfit and sew it together without a pattern. Ethel was often found working in the yard, tending to beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. She was much more upset about not being able to drive the mower than not driving the car. During the Christmas season, Ethel loved filling her home with decorations and lighting up the yard and house. Every year, she would leave up a little decoration in every room of the house in anticipation of the next year. Many of her traits are being continued through her grandchildren. Ethel touched many lives and will be missed.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the staff of Carlisle Manor and Hospice of Middletown for their kind, compassionate care as well as to the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church family and friends for their prayers and many expressions of love and support.
Services will be held at Anderson Funeral Home in Springboro, Ohio, with visitation Tuesday the 7th of June from 5-7 and funeral Wednesday the 8th of June at 10 in the morning with graveside service to follow at Springboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and to help make an eternal impact for children in the area, donations can be made to Camp Chautauqua (Camper Scholarships), care of Camp Chautauqua, 10550 Camp Trail, Miamisburg, OH, 45342.
